Easy on/off control systems

Jan 2000 Sensors & Transducers

Bürkert Contromatic's new switches can provide the process engineer with a valuable option that is able to cuts costs. With these easy on/off control systems, pressure, flow rate, temperature, level and analytical variables can be measured, indicated and controlled. The system combines sensor, control and communication functions. The intelligent on/off sensor/switch has been given a user-friendly programming interface comprising a display and three programming keys. The display also indicates the value of the process variable digitally and as a bar graph for easy reference. Potential applications are numerous and Bürkert says that it expects a great deal of interest in these new products.

Before embarking on the development and manufacture of this range of instruments, Bürkert researched the market extensively. The company found that many control systems are over engineered, and that on/off control would be quite adequate for these applications. If the process rise and lag times can be established, it is easy to decide by using mathematical formulae, whether on/off control will be suitable.

With the introduction of decentralised intelligence on sensor/switches, better solutions are available for efficient process control. The combination of these products with Bürkert's valves, and its Easy Link philosophy, can provide users significant cost of ownership savings and a simple yet reliable control loop.
