Tyre properties are crucial for safety, driving response and comfort in modern automobiles. To ensure constant quality at the highest level 100% inspection of tyres is required in production. Apart from dynamic stress tests, the acquisition of bulges, constrictions and impacts is of primary importance.
The tyre geometry inspection system from Micro-Epsilon incorporates three laser sensors, mounted on a solid and accurate transport system, that are used to detect bulges and depressions during tyre production. The sensors provide single/multitrack measurement in the case of spot laser sensing, or the whole sidewall can be scanned using sheet-of-light lasers to provide the complete tyre profile. The system monitors the signals from the sensors, eliminates lettering, performs filtering and then identifies bulges or dents, calculates radial and lateral run-out, checks tyre dimensions, performs harmonic analysis and classifies defects according to customer specification.
