Banner Engineering, represented locally by RET Automation, has announced the R55 series 'Expert' colour mark registration sensor, a microprocessor-based device featuring dynamic and static pushbutton set-up.
Colour mark registration is used extensively in the packaging, printing and pharmaceutical industries where it is required to detect small colour marks and differentiating low contrast colours. These signals index or register the product for further production operations. One example is the rotating of a toothpaste tube for correct orientation of the crimp seal. Another is the indexing and sealing of potato crisp packets. Banner's R55 offers unprecedented resolution, it detects 16 levels of grey scale at speeds of up to 10 000 actuations per second.
Two 'Teach' modes allow static or dynamic adjustment of the sensor. In the static mode, users point-and-click to teach individual light conditions. In the dynamic mode the sensor 'learns' a series of conditions on-the-fly, then computes and self programs the signal threshold. R55 sensors also incorporate a highly visible, 10-segment, LED bar display that provides a continuous indication of signal strength and switch-point.
