Combined single phase protection

August 2008 Electrical Power & Protection

DEHN’s new DEHNventil M TT 2P modules are multipole combined lightning current and surge arresters providing an all-in-one solution for protecting single phase TT and TNCS systems against surges. The combined Class I lightning current and Class 2 over-voltage surge arresters require only 30% of the space of similar devices since no de-coupling coils are necessary between the Class I and Class 2 arresters.

The protection modules are easily installed and replaced as they are secured by a simple pressing catch mechanism. Providing maximum system availability, DEHNventil M TT 2P devices are easily installed in a variety of power supply systems eliminating the need for calculations. Their discharge capability meets protection level 1 in accordance with EN 61643-11, the highest requirements of lightning protection at present. The devices are capable of protecting equipment subject to a lightning strike with an intensity of up to 100 kA (10/350 μs).

The use of encapsulated spark gap technology reduces safety distances to adjacent components within the distribution cabinet. Even at fault currents up to 50 kA a 35 A fuse will not trip when DEHNventil M TT 2P extinguishes the follow-on current.

Indication is provided by means of green and red mechanical flags. The units can also be ordered with remote monitoring terminals. All DEHNventil devices have an additional earth terminal to allow a safe connection to the main earth rail as well as keeping the connection to the protective earth conductor of the power supply system short.
