The new SONUS is the latest miniature ultrasonic sensor generation to be introduced by Baumer Electric. The ultrasonic operating principle permits reliable object detection regardless of colour or transparency, and the tiny housing (10 x 14 x 27 mm) is ideal for applications where several sensors are required in a tight space. These low mass (less than 4 grams) sensors are optimally suited for installation in all light, quick-moving material handling units.
The sensors are available in digital proximity, retro-reflective and the analog output distance measuring options. According to the manufacturers the performance is exceptional with scanning ranges up to 200 mm for all three types.
All units are equipped with self-teach functionality based on a standard algorithm initiated either by pushbutton or a control input. This allows the desired switching points and scanning ranges of the sensors and the polarity of the 0–10 V analog output to be optimised for the desired application.
Multiple connector options are available, and the range is complemented by a variety of customised package of accessories.
