Power saving luminaires

Lighting can account for 50%–60% of the electrical energy costs of warehouse, distribution and large warehouse type retail facilities. Somar’s Eluma range is an intelligent lighting fixture that delivers savings in the region of 70% of the lighting costs in this type of facility.
The efficient luminaire takes into account the fact that at most times lighting is left on in all areas of a warehouse even when no one is working there. Eluma intelligently senses occupancy in each area of the warehouse and also the change in ambient light and adjusts the light level and electrical energy usage accordingly.
The reflector design of the Eluma range of products delivers an even distribution of light on vertical surfaces, eliminating the shadows which can be experienced with conventional lighting. An even distribution of light and significantly less glare is experienced enhancing operator comfort and safety. The fittings are designed for mounting heights between 5 and 16 m.
The units also enhance security measures: for example, security personnel will be alerted to presence in an area since the facility lights will illuminate automatically.
Recently, Eluma was installed in a large distribution centre in the United Kingdom. According to Sumar power consumption was reduced from 819 000 kWh per annum to 262 000, resulting in a saving of nearly 70% in running costs.
