Sensing temperatures in difficult applications

March 2001 Sensors & Transducers

The Williamson PRO Series of noncontact temperature sensors from Temperature Controls provide high-performance capabilities in both traditional and difficult applications.

With integrated processing electronics, each PRO Series sensor can operate as a standalone sensor or in a system configuration with a remote interface module. Each configuration provides access to the text-based menu system and offers a variety of analog and digital outputs. Access to the wide range of system functions is provided through a text-based menu system that is organised in a display mode and a set-up mode.

According to Temperature Controls, the PRO Series provides exceptionally accurate temperature measurements over a broad temperature range - even under adverse conditions, including smoke, steam, dust, sprays or mechanical interference that causes optical attenuation. "The ability of the sensor to compensate for these types of application interferences means improved accuracy and reduced maintenance in hostile environments. These sensors also eliminate the need for precise alignment when measuring exceptionally small or wandering targets," states Andy Brown of Temperature Controls.

The PRO Series offers advanced emissivity compensation with dual and multiwavelength sensors, as well as advanced system diagnostics and status messages for simple troubleshooting on all units. Housed in rugged and corrosion-resistant IP65 enclosures, the PRO Series is also easy to use with intuitive text, programmable outputs and alarms and a fibre-optic sighted sensor for flexible and precise alignment. Further, an interchangeable interface module simplifies the set-up and field calibration of multiple or spare sensors. Bidirectional serial communications permit remote system monitoring and configuration.

The PRO Series is also available with a wide selection of accessories for simplified sensor installation and operation, including accessories for additional protection in particularly hostile operating environments. The PRO Series is accurate to within 0,25% and 0,5% of reading and repeatability is better than 1°C. Response time is between 4 and 400 ms.
