Flow sensors that adapt to fit
March 2001
Sensors & Transducers
The new SI series of compact flow sensors from IFM Electronic, are easy and convenient to install in virtually any process application, thanks to the comprehensive range of adaptors that IFM is offering for use with the units. The adaptors include brass and stainless steel versions for M12 x 1,G 1/4 and G 1/2 fittings, together with stainless steel types for DIN11851, Varivent and standard process clamp fittings. A stainless steel L18 T-piece is also available.
This wide range of adaptors means that just one type of IFM Electronic SI flow sensor is suitable for many different types of installation, simplifying design and specification work for new equipment, and saving money by reducing spares holding requirements for existing plant.
The SI flow sensors themselves are also designed to offer maximum versatility and reliability. Suitable for use in liquids, they have a setting range of 3 to 300 cm/s, and temperature changes in the flowing medium of up to 300 K/min can be tolerated without affecting accuracy or performance. The sensors are also pressure resistant to 30 MPa (300 bar), and have an IP67 protection rating. All parts of the sensor in contact with the flowing medium are manufactured from type 316 stainless steel, as are the adaptors.
The integral microprocessor-based amplifiers used with SI series sensors feature IFM's 'teach-in' pushbutton programming system, which, in conjunction with the built-in LED display, makes adjustment straightforward and certain. A separate programming wire is also provided which allows the setpoint to be adjusted remotely. The sensor output can be connected for either normally open or normally closed operation, and has a switching capacity of 400 mA.
