Siemens Automation and Drives has overhauled the Profibus optical link modules (OLMs) in the new Version 4.0 and equipped them with additional functionality.
The new features include improved electromagnetic compatibility achieved in part by the stainless steel housing, LEDs for indicating the fibre-optic line quality, channel monitoring and additional approvals such as Atex ExZone 2 and UL-HazLoc. Line quality data can now be transferred via the measuring terminal to the analog input module of the controller for analysis.
The new OLMs are available in five versions that cater for all commonly used fibre-optic cables, and the temperature has been extended to minus 25°C. Optical Profibus networks can be established in linear bus, star and redundant ring topologies using the Profibus OLMs, with data transfer rates up to 12 Mbit/s.
