Surge arresters
May 2008
Electrical Power & Protection
The DEHNguard TT multipole surge arresters are designed to protect LV installations; multifunctional terminals provide the surge arresters with almost unlimited flexibility for connection with each other and with other DIN rail-mounted devices in the same distribution board. The Class 2 units consist of a base and a plug-in protection module, which is easily exchanged without tools.
The 40 kA surge arresters are designed for 35 mm DIN rail mounting, and provide sub 25 ns response times. The modular device meets IP 20 protection requirements and operates over a temperature range of -40 to +80°C.
High discharge capacity, low protection level and thermo dynamic disconnection ensure a high degree of device reliability. The thermo dynamic disconnection principle ensures that the arresters revert to a safe isolated state, even at extreme overloads.
Red and green visual indicators are provided to indicate device healthy or overstress conditions. Energy co-ordination is possible with upstream lightning current arresters such as the DEHNbloc Maxi.
The units can also be provided with a make or break contact for remote signalling.

Why mining operations need local lightning early warning
Senseca
Editor's Choice Electrical Power & Protection
Lightning can develop into a serious mining hazard before the first local strike, leaving crews little time to stop work and reach safety. Local early-warning technology can provide valuable lead time, allowing mines to connect developing storm conditions to defined trigger actions that protect people, explosives and equipment.
