Sensor offers sanitary connections

Process instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser has announced the launch of the Proline Promass S stainless steel flow sensor. Developed in response to market demands, the Promass S has been designed especially for the stringent requirements of the food and beverage industry.

This single tube sensor delivers high performance measuring accuracy, and is available with various sanitary connections to meet the needs of different applications such as breweries and dairies.

The Promass S features a bent tube design which ensures that it is less affected by changes in high temperature and is able to perform in all required temperature ranges.

According to Frans van den Berg, Endress+Hauser, product manager – Flow, the single tube technology ensures that the sensor is drainable, cleanable, offers low pressure loss, and facilitates the use of cleaning pigs.

“This design also ensures reduced cleaning time between batches, thus increasing plant productivity. There is also no flow splitter which decreases the chances of the tubes becoming blocked and causing damage to the product.”

The Promass S meets EHDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group), 3A, United States FDA (Federal Drug Administration) and SIL2 requirements, and is capable of handling the stringent cleaning-in-place and sterilising-in-place processes demanded by the industry.

The sensor allows for multiple I/O combinations, which ensures greater flexibility to meet the application needs of mass flow, volume flow density, and concentration temperature output.

Van den Berg notes that a further advantage of the device is the ease of maintenance and installation. “With no moving parts and no seals, the device is virtually maintenance free, ensuring high reliability. The Promass S is also quick and simple to install.”

The sensor features an intelligent tooling concept and is available with the Endress+Hauser suite of FieldCheck, FieldTool, and FieldCare products that enable on-site diagnostics, verification and simulation, as well as serviceability and process availability.
