Africa's largest power exhibition

April 2008 News

African Utility Week’s unique training, networking and discussion platforms will demonstrate how utilities can be more efficient and offer cost-effective services through improved infrastructure maintenance, load management, delivery and revenue management choices.

Last year, this prestigious event attracted the highest level of delegates – over 1000 from 47 countries!

As the energy crisis in Africa continues with load shedding and rolling blackouts, privatisation and restructuring of government-owned power companies has been a feature of many countries’ governmental policy over the last 10 years. Power shortages and irregularities have forced many countries to look to their neighbours to supplement their supply, with regional networks and power pools arising as a result. Power shortages have also brought a number of new projects to the fore, with large multinational power companies establishing a growing presence.

This year’s event has been structured as three distinct segments: Generation Africa; Transmission & Distribution Africa; and Metering, Billing/CRM Africa.

Generation Africa will update the industry on power generation solutions for the on-going power crisis in Africa, the plans that are being implemented, new tenders and the implementation of various technologies for generation.

There is no other African conference and exhibition that offers this level of contact with the industry’s key policy makers, buyers and sellers.

Participants will be given the opportunity to visit two of Africa’s major power generation plants housed in Cape Town, which have extensive capabilities and use various technologies.

Transmission & Distribution Africa is an event providing utility professionals with the opportunity to discuss key issues facing the Pan-African TSO and DSO market and to see the latest products and technologies designed to improve reliability in the ever changing T&D market. It will address cross-border electrification, energy trading, maintenance, industrial electrification, broadband over power-line, virtual power stations and much more.

Now in its ninth year, Metering, Billing/CRM Africa is firmly established as the essential meeting place for metering, billing and customer management professionals. The focus is next generation technologies for utilities, with the emphasis on smart metering and smart grids.

National and international experts will give insight on how to successfully implement consumer-end technologies through case studies and topical updates on issues such as demand side management, prepayment, automated meter reading and meter data management.
