The new SIKO MSA510 magnetic linear sensor combines high precision, extreme robustness and a compact size. The system is comprised of a flexible 20 mm wide magnetic tape and a read/write magnetic head with integral sensing electronics, signal conversion and interface. The sensor can be directly linked to master controls or bus systems - standard interfaces are SSI and RS485 with further options, such as CAN or Profibus also available. The sensor's dimensions have been reduced to 20 x 67 x 33,5 mm and additional interface electronics are no longer required.
The low-profile magnetic band has resolutions of 10 m at velocities up to 5 m/sec, offering low-power sensor development for linear and rotary applications. Another advantage is the reduction in machine set-up times due to referenced position sensing, when switched on the system immediately indicates the absolute position value.
The encoder offers contamination immunity, large alignment tolerances, no enclosure, and extended temperature range. The adhesive-backed magnetic band and low-mass encoder are IP65 rated and CE marked. They are virtually unaffected by external magnetic fields, making them suitable for linear servomotor and direct-drive rotary applications.
