BeltAlign enables precise belt alignment

February 2008 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

The SKF BeltAlign TMEB 2 can assist in preventing one of the most common reasons for unplanned downtime of belt-driven machinery - pulley misalignment. Misalignment can increase the wear on pulleys and belts, causing vibration and noise, ultimately leading to the premature failure of bearings and other components.

The unit provides a simple user interface and fits within the pulley grooves, since greater accuracy can be obtained by placing the unit where the belt runs.

This method ensures accurate alignment, even when the pulleys are of different diameter or width. The device features a laser emitter unit and receiver unit and uses V-guides and magnets to enable quick fitment.

A three-dimensional target area on the receiver allows misalignment to be detected easily and the degree of inaccuracy to be determined in horizontal, vertical or parallel axes, or a combination of the three.
