Bursary helps grow supply chain skills

February 2008 News

Reflecting the value of the recently launched APICS CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) qualification, Johannesburg-based recruitment firm Tech-Pro Personnel recently marked its 10th birthday by sponsoring a CSCP bursary for one lucky supply chain professional.

Managing member Priscilla Gibson elaborates: "We decided to sponsor the CSCP bursary as there is a dire shortage of senior managers with an holistic understanding of the entire supply chain, and it was a fitting way to mark our 10 years as the leader in supply chain recruitment in southern Africa.

"We received over 35 applications, and shortlisted to seven. A panel of three members comprising myself, SAPICS director Liezl Smit and Barry Urban, a Jonah with the Goldratt Institute, interviewed the shortlisted candidates and judged them according to several criteria. These included their ability to complete the course and pass, overall knowledge of the supply chain discipline as well as the South African economy, nation-building and leadership ability, and their ambassadorial skills."

Durban-based Regina Naicker, who is the hub manager at BP Lubricants supply chain, was named the winner of the CSCP bursary. "Regina's drive for excellence and dogged commitment to safety in her environment is only outshone by her passion for her team and her spirit of giving," Priscilla enthuses.

Tech-Pro Personnel has been a sponsor of the SAPICS Conference since 2002 and, over the last six years, has worked closely with SAPICS to build the supply chain discipline and promote it within the southern African region.
