November 2007 News

Over 300 delegates attended the Honeywell Solution Day presentations in Johannesburg, Durban and Secunda recently. The Solution Days showcased Honeywell's expertise in automation and control process solutions and the services sectors.

A number of international speakers from the Honeywell stable presented papers. Jean-Marie Alliet, director: sales support: Europe, Middle East and Africa, provided an update on Honeywell Process Solutions' platforms and advanced solutions including Experion Process Knowledge, TPS and Uniformance. Alliet commented: "In the USA $20 billion downtime plant losses are attributed to human error and one of the cornerstones of the Honeywell technology addresses this by supplying advance notification of equipment deterioration, enabling customers to conduct preventative maintenance and reduce downtime. The key focus of Honeywell technologies is safety, reliability and efficiencies."

Honeywell corrosion specialist Dr Slawomir Kus from Poland told delegates about the wide-ranging scope of Honeywell's anti-corrosion technologies and encouraged customers to take on board the full system in order to reap the associated benefits, but stressed that individual components were available as standalone systems. Kus said, "Most industries are not proactive in the field of corrosion monitoring, despite the fact the corrosion is currently costing $60 billion per annum in plant downtime and reactive maintenance and repair."

Paulo Da Silva, Honeywell SA regional sales leader - field solutions, announced the forthcoming launch of Smart Plus, a wireless technology starter kit aimed specifically at those plant managers who are unsure of the benefits of wireless solutions on site. Da Silva said, "One would expect to receive a starter kit with the purchase of a new cellphone - now Honeywell is offering a starter kit to introduce the benefits of wireless technology in the same way to plant operators."

Other topics that were presented included: securing of assets, physical and IT convergence, operational excellence, resource development, customer support and knowledge management.
