Strategic OEM-partnership between GE Fanuc and Phoenix Contact

GE Fanuc Automation, a joint venture of General Electric USA as well as FANUC Japan, and Phoenix Contact Germany have concluded a partnership in the area of I/O systems. This includes the worldwide distribution of I/O systems for GE Fanuc controls - based on the open installation system, Inline - as well as joint activities concerning the expansion and development of this system. In October 2000 correspondence contracts were signed at GE Fanuc Headquarters in Charlottesville, USA. The system partnership was set to come into effect at the beginning of 2001.

GE Fanuc Automation considers the installation system, Inline, a sensible strategic completion of its VersaMax product range of flexible I/O solutions. With this modular automation kit, new application possibilities are being developed. In particular, the simplification of installation as well as the function-suited layout of the components in the control cabinet, formed the basis of GE Fanuc's decision for Inline. A decisive factor for this decision is the long-term experience and competence of Phoenix Contact in the electromechanical connection and industrial communication technology.

"By bundling the marketing activities and development strengths of both partners we are extending the worldwide market penetration of an I/O system which forms an ideal combination of flexibility, modularity and an economic price," John Pritchard underlines, GE Fanuc's Senior Vice President, Automation Equipment Sales. "In this partnership we see the basis for a successful and long-term cooperation and are convinced that the Inline system as well as future joint developments in many new industrial areas will find application," says Roland Bent, Head of Marketing and Development at Phoenix Contact.
