ATEX certified infrared camera

September 2007 Sensors & Transducers

Hawk IR International offers a selection of fixed and portable, ATEX certified infrared cameras for use in marine applications, by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers, in the petrochemical industry and offshore exploration and drilling operations.

These certified IR cameras overcome the risks and complications of using safe area IR cameras in hazardous areas. Users avoid the need to carry gas detectors and lengthy hot work permits. The Hawk IR Ex |CAM system allows users to extend their infrared monitoring programmes into explosive atmospheres increasing coverage, efficiency and worker safety.

The camera incorporates intrinsically safe battery cells, nitrogen purging with dual redundant pressure trips, primary and secondary pressure indication and automatic oxygen depletion flushing.

The camera is designed to withstand the rigours of continuous life in corrosive, explosive environments. The polymer coated aluminium body, armoured display and high transmission optic form a package that can withstand a 1 kg steel ball impact or direct fall onto concrete from two metres or more without compromising the safety of the unit.

Certified by DNV to ATEX 2 IIG T4 for use within Zone 1 areas the Ex |CAM Professional does not require hot work permits and supplementary safety systems for operation. The manufacturers claim that the Ex |CAM Professional is the only portable IR camera in the world to hold true Ex 2 IIG T3 ATEX Certification.

In addition to the base camera, Hawk IR International provides the automated docking station which enables data transfer from the camera's on-board storage to a standard PC via a USB protective barrier.
