Innovation reduces pressure transmitter costs

July 2007 Pressure Measurement & Control

The Ashcroft Xmitr embodies stainless steel wetted parts and case, combining the advantages of the proven Ashcroft standalone pressure gauge with patented transducer technology to create a single, convenient, dual-function instrument. In applications where both a gauge and transducer are currently being used the Xmitr provides the user with money, space and time savings since it eliminates one instrument and the associated piping, fitting, installation, calibration and maintenance costs. In addition, there are fewer leak paths and a reduced process dead-leg.

Serving as two instruments in one, the stainless steel Type X1009 provides traditional transducer features including 4-20 mA and voltage outputs, CE rating and 1% BFSL (best fit straight line) accuracy with electronic temperature compensation from -20°C to 85°C. Pressure ranges from vacuum to 100 MPa are available in both 63 mm and 90 mm configurations. These features allow the Ashcroft Xmitr to replace Bourdon tube gauges and transducers in a wide variety of installations.

For applications where only a transducer would normally be used, the device is a cost-effective alternative to traditional products and provides analogue local indication for start-up, emergencies and maintenance situations.

As a result of its low cost and innovative approach this transmitter has won awards at the 2007 AHR Expo, in the 2006 Control Engineering Engineers Choice Competition (Rated 'would buy it tomorrow if I could' by readers) and in the 2006 Sensors Magazine Best of Sensors awards.
