Slippery limit switch beats the heat

Process automation specialist, Endress+Hauser has radically enhanced its limit switch range with the launch of Soliphant M Second Step. The new limit switch technology opens up new areas of application, particularly in the high-temperature range.

Hennie Blignaut, Endress+Hauser marketing manager says, "It took three years of development to realise the new Soliphant generation. Technologies from space travel, novel materials and Endress+Hauser's many years of expertise were combined in the project. The result is a product that allows reliable limit detection at temperatures of up to 280°C."

The sensor's piezo drive core was redeveloped using new temperature-resistant materials to ensure that it would function flawlessly under the tremendous strain of such intense environments. This design makes the new limit switch range ideally suited to application in exhaust gas combustion and purification environments.

Soliphant M incorporates other new features. To prevent build-up on the sensor and to improve accuracy, a new, multistage manufacturing procedure was developed to create an abrasion-resistant coating. Also, a polished sensor was developed which prevents solid particles from adhering to its surface. The sensor is easy to clean, which makes it very well-suited to food applications.

Endress+Hauser claim that the Soliphant is already the most used instrument in level limit detection in bulk solids, with over one million measuring points worldwide. The company is confident that this new generation will enable them to address many new applications.
