Universal AS-i temperature sensor

March 2007 Sensors & Transducers

The new AS-i temperature sensor from IFM Electronic is a universal transmitter with integrated AS-i slave. The transmission occurs according to the analog protocol 7.3, which is implemented in all masters to AS-i specification 2.1 as a standard. Claimed to be the first AS-i temperature sensor with a S-7.3 profile, the model TAA431 has a -10°C to 150°C temperature evaluation range with dynamic T05 = 1 s and TO9 = 3 s response times. The sensor offers flexible mounting options and provides high mechanical stability with IP 69K protection rating. Due to its Class A Pt sensor element and factory calibration, a precision of 0,1 K at 60°C is achieved making the sensor suitable for most processes.

In many industrial applications precise temperature measurement is critical, especially in biological processes such as fermentation and pasteurisation that take place at a temperature range between 60°C and 70°C. In this temperature range the TAA431 works at its highest precision. By using the temperature transmitter it is now possible to connect the temperature sensor directly to the AS-interface, reducing wiring considerably.

Temperature values are automatically written into a clearly defined data range in the higher-level controller. The transfer is made according to the analog protocol 7.3. The value is transferred in 1/10°C as a standard - a value of 1234 corresponds to a temperature of 123,4°C.

The integrated G½ thread, welding adapters and progressive ring fittings ensure easy mounting. By using the flush mounting clamp adapters and thread cover accessories, the temperature sensor is suitable for hygienic applications.
