New enclosed type switching power supply for LED lighting

February 2007 Electrical Power & Protection

Mean Well introduced two more new product series for the LED lighting purpose - CLG-60 and PLN-60 series - 60 W AC/DC enclosed type switching power supply with active PFC function. These limited power sources comply with UL 1310 class 2 that under any situation the output power will be less than 100 VA or 5 A. This will significantly reduce hazardous conditions for the technicians who execute the construction or maintenance of LED lighting systems. The high IP level design (IP67 for CLG-60 series and IP64 for PLN-60 series) can protect the electronic components against dust and moisture allowing them to be used in indoor or outdoor locations. The CLG-60 series is totally waterproof and can even be immersed in water up to 1 m.

Thanks to the simplified single stage PFC topology, the required high power factor for the lighting industry can be achieved economically. The efficiency of CLG-60 and PLN-60 is as high as 88% and hence can operate between -30 to +70°C by free air convection. Standard functions include short circuit, overload, overvoltage, and overtemperature protections. The CLG-60 series, internally fully glued and possessing a higher IP level, is targeted at the market of harsh operating conditions and uses an aluminium case as the enclosure to enhance the mechanical strength. The PLN-60 series with adjustable output voltage/current level uses a fully enclosed plastic case for lower costs and is targeted at the market where only a lower level of waterproof is needed. Typical applications for these new Class 2 power units include moving signs and backlighting, LED-based decorative/architectural lighting, LED stage and theatre lighting, and LED electronic displays.

Features and main specifications:

* Universal AC input/full range.

* Built-in active PFC function.

* Protections: short circuit, overload (constant current limiting), overvoltage, overtemperature.

* Cooling by free air convection.

* IP67 (CLG-60)/IP64 (PLN-60) design for outdoor and indoor installations.

* Suitable for LED lighting and moving sign applications.

* Adjustable output voltage and current level for PLN-60.

* Dimensions (L*W*H): 172x61, 5x39 mm (CLG-60), 181x61,5x35 mm (PLN-60).

* Connection: 18AWG *3C/18AWG * 2C cable for input/output.

* Approvals: UL/CUL/CE.
