Hygienic laser level and distance transmitter

February 2007 Sensors & Transducers

The LM80 laser level and distance transmitter is a low-cost laser instrument from Laser Measurement. The compact, robust and versatile enclosure is ideal for hygienic conditions in the food and beverage industry. The transmitter's face plate is made of 316 stainless steel to meet the standards of cleanliness in the food industry, and the universal quick-release clamp provides instant accessibility for cleaning. The versatile LM80 range has a proven track record in industrial, petrochemical and mining environments. The LM80 has customisable features which allow the instrument to be used in 'seemingly impossible' applications.

The user-friendly LM80 product range is available in a number of options:

* Standard - LM80 Level instrument for measuring to natural surfaces in the range 0,5 to 25 m.

* Hotglass - LM80 Level or LM80 Positioning fitted with heated lenses to reduce the effects of condensation in high humidity, or volatile temperature environments.

* Hygiene - Standard LM80 with hygienic front flange of 316 stainless steel.

* Hygiene hotglass - Hotglass LM80 with hygienic front flange of 316 stainless steel.

Newly developed software maximises dust penetration capabilities allowing the instrument to automatically adjust the power level on the laser to allow it to penetrate dust more effectively. This software makes the unit extremely fast and the simplified menus are very user-friendly. Menu options can be accessed with the handheld laser communication device (LCD2). This device requires no batteries as it draws power from the unit and can be used for mA setup and program selection with a display screen for convenience.

The rugged unit with strong cast aluminium housing comes with improved features such as lightning and surge protection on both the 24 V d.c. power supply and signal lines. Two mechanical relays with an output AC rating of 1 A @ 120 V a.c. and 0,5 A @ 220 V a.c. or an output DC rating of 1 A @ 60 V d.c.

Optional extras include:

* Visible pointer for easy alignment in confined situations.

* Dust tube available for slightly dusty environments.
