Magnetorestrictive sensors - versatile, linear and accurate

January 2001 Sensors & Transducers

New to SA Instrumentation and Control, ATI Systems has the sole local agency for nine manufacturers/suppliers and sells products locally for eight others. One of these companies, MTS Sensors Group, produces the Temposonics range of quality magneto-restrictive sensors.

These sensors are used in all manner of applications, ranging from packaging machines through drinks bottling and canning, plastics moulding up to demanding situations such as those found in steel rolling mills. Modular in design, their noncontacting method of measurement reduces installation and maintenance costs. When installed, the high degree of precision produces absolute position measurements that are linear and reliable, which is reflected in the quality of the plant's output.

Temposonics sensors are also being used more and more in applications outside of industrial production. They can be used wherever positions have to be precisely measured. ATI's engineers love the challenges of unusual applications.

In the truest sense of the word, they paved the way for the planning of the bridge over the Great Belt in the Baltic Sea. Temposonics control the hydraulics of the bridge.

The performance and features inherent in the high position sensors: output options, interfaces, magnets, connectors, mounting platforms and application-specific software packages make them adaptable to a virtually unlimited range of applications.

In Warner Bros. Movie World, they bring life to the South Pacific paradise, regulating the hydraulics of the moving stage. In modern hospital beds they move patients to the most healthy lying position. In road construction they monitor the efficient compaction of the substrate in tandem rollers.
