New thermal imager for building maintenance

November 2006 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

"I am looking for a device to inspect a building for cracks, existing or previously repaired, in the superstructure. Preferably, the device should be a 'helmet' or 'scope-eyepiece' type of device that can be used to view the superstructure for flaws (infrared) and be able to take a still picture of the area being viewed."

This recent enquiry from a value added reseller of Comtest prompted its recommendation of Fluke's new model INSXS-20 Building Maintenance Thermal Imager.

The new Fluke IR InSight Thermal Imager combines high image quality with unprecedented thermal sensitivity. Optimised for low contrast thermal applications encountered in building applications, the device is loaded with SmartView software which then allows for the preparation of professional infrared survey reports.

IR InSight thermal imagers offer:

* 160x120 focal plane array.

* Industry-leading thermal sensitivity (0,07°C NETD).

* 3,5" (88,9 mm), 30 bit colour, high resolution, high-contrast display.

IR InSight thermal imagers are ideal for building diagnostic applications such as:

* Industrial roofing - detection of water-saturated portions of flatroof systems.

* Moisture remediation - location of damp behind interior walls, ceilings or under carpeting.

* Energy audits - increases the thermal efficiency of residential or commercial buildings by scanning for heat loss, moisture invasion, concrete integrity, and potential heating or ventilation problems.
