In almost all chemical and petrochemical plants, it is necessary to monitor gas levels of toxic or explosive gases to prevent explosions or loss of life. In particular, methane, ethylene, ammonia, hydrogen and hexane can be easily monitored with sensors from PREI Instrumentation. The type of gas will generally determine which of the five sensing methods is most suitable for an application.
The sensor can be attached to either portable or permanently-mounted instruments. There are several different models of battery-powered portable units, from a unit which has a single sensor to monitor a specific gas, to a versatile unit which has four sensors and can monitor over 100 toxic and combustible gases. The portable units have built-in sampling pumps, datalogging, storing and downloading facilities.
The permanently mounted units are housed in an explosion-proof casing. They require 24 V d.c. power, and provide a linear 4-20 mA output proportional to the gas concentration.
