Optical distance sensor with up to 10 m measuring range

A new optical distance sensor has been introduced by IFM Electronic, for use, in particular, in the automotive industry. The type O1D101 features precise background suppression, even at distances up to 10 m. The diffuse reflection sensor utilises the ON-chip time of flight measurement system with PMD (photonic mixer device) technology.
The precision of the visible laser detection system enables the safe detection of objects at very long distances. For set-up, the object and the background are detected by simply pressing a pushbutton.
Compact in design, the type O1D101 meets Class 2 laser protection requirements. Housed in diecast zinc, the sensor has a glass front pane and LED window to indicate 'power on' and the switching status. It has a four-digit alphanumeric display and is protected against short circuits, reverse polarity and overloads.
The senor operates on 18 to 30 V d.c. with a 5 Hz switching frequency in an operating temperature range from -10 to 60°C.
