Reflection time sensor utilised in precise distance measurements

Wenglor's new reflection time sensor can perform high-precision measurements over distances of up to 100 m with a digital resolution of 1 mm. The analog output of the sensor can be set within the ranges of 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA. The sensor is PNP/NPN switchable. The graphic display is designed for easy and clear operation. Measuring ranges and switching distances can be set by manually entering the relevant distance, by means of teach-in or via RS232 interface.
Ideal applications for this product include the detection of position for electrical overhead conveyors and precision fill-level measurements, and the monitoring of coiling and uncoiling processes. Differences in diameter and height values can also be precisely detected.
It is an advantage that measurement is mostly independent of the direction of motion, the angle, and the reflection and colour characteristics of the object to be scanned. Dark objects with diffuse reflection values of less than 6% can be reliably detected, even in front of bright backgrounds.
