SEW promises shortest lead times in SA

SEW Eurodrive, a leader in the supply of geared motors in southern Africa, has strategically positioned itself to become a leader in the supply of industrial gear (IG) units as well. As a relative newcomer to this market, it is in the process of making a huge impact with the expansion of its current facilities in order to increase its local assembly capacity as well as increasing its stock holding capacity.

July 2006 saw the official opening of the new and improved assembly plant in Nelspruit under the capable management of Raymond Obermeyer, regional manager for Mpumalanga. "The demand for our IG units has exceeded our expectations. We can hardly keep up with the orders. It is obvious that the market is ready for our units and that our service record and quality of product speak for themselves", comments Obermeyer.

SEW Eurodrive has a dedicated specialist industrial gear unit team of application and service engineers. Conrad Pilger, sales and projects manager, comments that, "We are now able to offer a cost effective applications solution with the shortest lead times in the industry." The new facility in Nelspruit has effectively put us ahead of our competitors in terms of delivery time. We have been able to cut down delivery time on industrial gear units from three months to one month."

Stock holding has already been dramatically increased and a specialist IG applications team has been put in place. A specialist applications engineer has recently been employed to join the team. Pilger states: "We offer solution-based application engineering with a very short lead time, our clients can expect reliable turnkey solutions." SEW Eurodrive's capabilities range from design to manufacturing, product assembly as well as assistance with cold start up during commissioning. SEW Eurodrive also has one of the best IG Service Teams on the market giving customers 24 hour service with its hot line and fully qualified service technicians on call. Pilger states: "We offer 24/7/365 service to our customers as our technicians are highly experienced with the ability to assist our clients in getting to the root of the fault, no matter what. With our local assembly facility we are also able to offer customers last minute flexibility."

Currently, SEW Eurodrive's units are some of the most cost effective on the market. This has been achieved through the use of modular housings requiring less machining. In order to achieve this SEW Eurodrive has invested in specialised tooling and is able to offer clients complete flexibility with three ranges of industrial gear units. Included in this is the MC Series in a Monoblock design which is a heavy duty compact drive with a high torque transfer capacity. For higher torque requirements it is able to offer the M Series and the CN Series. Recently launched is its EBD range which is part of the MC Series specifically targeted at the water treatment industry for mixing and agitating applications with extended bearing distance (EBD). It has a dry well option that is 100% leak proof preventing oil leakage at the output shaft and comes complete with standardised mounting flanges.
