Pressure Measurement & Control

Pressure sensor with extended features

May 2006 Pressure Measurement & Control

IFM Electronic's PN3 pressure sensors have been designed for a wide range of applications and different versions with measuring ranges from -100 kPa (vacuum) to +60 MPa are available. The pressure sensors have one switching output and one analog output (4 to 20 mA or 0 to10 V selectable).

A large 4-digit 10-segment display indicates the measured values and menu navigation. This slanted display, which can be rotated electronically by 180°, enables optimum reading from different angles. The pressure units (bar/mbar, kPa, mPa, psi) are freely selectable allowing OEMs to use the same pressure sensor, regardless of the country where the machine is to be installed.

A memory is available to record the highest system pressure measured, as well as the lowest system pressure for vacuum sensors, to help the user with machine diagnosis. An electronic lock protects the unit from unauthorised access.

An interface reads and stores the current measured values and the parameters of the sensor can also be set via a graphic interface on the PC. This convenient alternative allows comprehensive parameter documentation. If required, all parameters can be copied to other sensors. The ceramic-capacitive measuring principle with a special support of the measuring diaphragm makes the pressure sensors immune to overload operation and high pressure peaks. The long-term stable ceramic measuring cell allows drift-free operation over 100-million pressure cycles. For optimum process connection a wide range of adapters is available.
