IR and UV/IR spark and flame sensors

May 2006 Sensors & Transducers

The Talentum 16500 series EExD ATEX & IS approved flame sensors offer accurate flame monitoring. The advantage of flame sensors is the fact that the sensors are unaffected by convection currents; draughts or winds, they are tolerant to fumes, vapours, dust and mists and are able to sense reliably over long distances and respond quickly to flames and sparks. This range offers a high sensitivity while remaining immune to high levels of interference. A full range of sensors and detectors are available for liquids solids and gases including coal and other fuels, flame detection in areas containing cotton, grain, paper, butane, fluorine, hydrogen, off gas, natural gas, propane etc.

Applications could include boilers, flame monitoring, aircraft hangers, petrochemicals, engine rooms, pharmaceuticals, generators, tunnels, high voltage equipment, spray booths, power plants, dust collection filters/bag plants, storage tanks, dryers, coal handling and printing.

The devices will run off an 18 to 30 V d.c. power supply and operate over the -20 to +85°C temperature range. The devices are housed in IP66 rated alloy enclosures and offer adjustable sensitivity, delivering a response time between 1 and 8 seconds. Power up time is two seconds and there is a 4 to 20 mA output as well as a relay fire/fault indication. Alarms are user adjustable and the 150 x 146 x 110 mm, 2,5 kg units include an LCD display. Approvals include: EEx d 11C T6, ATEX Ex 112 D G, EN 50014, EN50018, EN 5028.

Test functions are by automatic built in test function or remote handheld unit. A full range of accessories is available including control systems, audible and visual alarms, sight tubes, mounting hardware, automatic extinguishers, spray nozzles etc. Full installation and commissioning as well as training and service are also provided.
