Maxiflex has provided the solution for integrating information from Satec power transducers distributed around a large motor assembly plant, into a dual Wonderware InTouch scada system located in the control room. Until now, the Satec meters had to be read by maintenance personnel who logged the energy readings manually for reporting and management analysis purposes.
Five Maxiflex RTUs use standard Modbus to extract information from the Satec power meters, converting this to Conet for transmission to InTouch. The RTUs were simply connected to an existing Conet network at the plant, which was installed for Conet Squeezers (still functioning) nearly 10 years ago.
Modbus communications to the Satec power meters is done from the Maxiflex NIMs (network interface modules) using RS485 links. The Satec meters are configured as Modbus slave units. The Maxiflex CPUs communicate to the InTouch system over Conet. The NIMs poll the Satec meters for information asynchronously from the scada, storing variables in the CPU's internal data interchange tables (DITs). The scada system then polls the DITs for the latest information on a regular basis (every few hundred milliseconds), logging this and using it for realtime and historical trending.
