AC current transducer

December 2000 Sensors & Transducers

Transducers which look like CTs can provide a 2-wire, 4-20 mA d.c. signal for monitoring AC currents from 10 to 2500 A. No auxiliary power is required, and the device operates from a loop power supply between 5 and 40 V.

A feature of the transducers is that they can be calibrated for any AC current between 10 and 2500 A to provide 4-20 mA. They are locally produced, have been tested by the SABS and are available for quick delivery. Intrinsically safe variations are also available. The output (secondary) wiring can be open-circuited without any danger or problems. These units are intended for getting current information into a PC, controller or DCS.
