RS232/422/485 to Ethernet data gateway
February 2006
Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
The ADAM-4570/4571, available from ProMicro, is a fast and cost effective data gateway between RS232/422/485 and Ethernet interfaces for remotely controlling and monitoring devices via the Internet.
A choice of one or two RS232/422/485 serial ports can be easily configured for individual needs, and transmission speeds of up to 230 Kbps are supported. A Windows utility is able to configure the device without the need for further programming.
Both existing HMI software and RS232/422/485 system architecture can be integrated with an Ethernet network, reducing cabling space and software development costs. Its high performance RISC CPU and realtime operating system reduces CPU load, and users can remotely download programs to a designated device via the Ethernet.
The gateway supports a 10/100Base-T Ethernet port and is surge protected for the RS485 line and power supply. An advanced security mechanism avoids unauthorised access.

Loop signature Part 2-2: Feedforward Control: Part 1
Michael Brown Control Engineering
Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
Feedforward control is a powerful technique that can dramatically improve control variance in cases where load changes cause big deviations from setpoint and the actual process dynamics are too slow to allow the feedback controller to operate fast enough to catch these disturbances.
