Level Measurement & Control

Level probes for highest temperatures and pressures

November 2005 Level Measurement & Control

Having installed in excess of 36 000 measuring points, Endress+Hauser has become a market leader in the area of time domain reflectometer (TDR) measurement worldwide. Levelflex M, for continuous level measurement in liquids, is now also available as type FMP 45 for level measurement in the highest pressure and temperature applications.

The new design and safety concept of FMP 45 permits applications with extremely high pressure up to 40 MPa and temperatures ranging from -200 to +400°C. The gastight feed-through - a second line of defence - prevents the escape of toxic gases and liquids from the process via the compact housing ensuring the highest degree of safety and reliability to maintenance and operation personnel. All the important properties of the Levelflex M family are carried through the FMP 45. The operation via the display at the instrument, or remotely via a software tool, is identical. Foam and turbulent or agitated surfaces do not influence the result of measurement. The instrument complies with the requirements of functional safety SIL2 according to IEC 61508/IEC 61511.

The measuring range amounts to 4 m for the rod and coax probe and 35 m for the rope probe. The main areas of application for the FMP 45 are the petrochemical, chemical and power generation industries. The one-rod probe of Levelflex M is well suited to installations in bypasses or measuring chambers. It also ensures safe and reliable measurement results in high-viscosity or liquids prone to forming a build-up.

To ensure easy system integration, the Levelflex M FMP 45 transmitter is supplied standard with 4 to 20 mA analog with HART, Profibus-PA and Foundation Fieldbus also available on request. The picture shows the Levelflex M FMP 45 for extremely high pressure and temperature applications.
