The appointment of the SIVOS training centre at the Sishen Iron Ore Company in Kathu in the Northern Cape as a Siemens certified training partner will allow the mining operation to provide the highest standards of PLC training for its staff on site.
At a recent function held at the mine to present the certification, Des Burrouws, training manager at Siemens Southern Africa's Automation and Drives division, says both the training centre and the trainer have been certified to provide PLC training, which will be extended to include variable speed drives and switchgear in the future.
"The SIVOS trainer has been trained, assessed and certified by Siemens to provide the identical SITRAIN training at the same high standards that that would apply if a learner had travelled to a Siemens facility," says Burrouws. "This means that staff at Sishen as well as those from other operations in the region can now receive the best and most comprehensive PLC training without having to travel to a major centre, resulting in improved competency levels at a lower cost."
