Fire and explosion suppression systems

September 2005 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

In a recent joint venture the Spero Group has formed a business alliance with the local company, Zeroblaze, recently established by entrepreneurs with a unique product range for automatic fire suppression systems. The Zeroblaze product complements the SL2000 in the mining industry, in that the monitoring capability of SL2000 is combined with fire suppression.

Spot detection is available (heat, smoke, and gas) for monitoring a specific point. Optical (ultraviolet, infrared) Z+1 explosion detection reacts in less than 10 milliseconds - and extreme fire detection in under three seconds. Fast, modular automotive systems are configurable according to specification and there are multiple extinguishing agents available (DCP, gas and AFFF). Communication is via CAN BUS Communication protocol. Rapid reaction is made possible by fast slider type valves, which release the contents of the Z+1 Cylinders (8 MPa), or the Extreme/Titan Cylinders (3,5 MPa).

Applications include any confined area where explosions are imminent in any industry/operation, commercial/military, plants or vehicles. Sperosense offers a systems approach to explosion/fire suppression and custom design per application. Pyrocool extinguishing agents are locally produced (both UL and International accreditations), so the product is readily available, with field support.

Magnum heat activated nozzles will only discharge through the nozzles that are activated, delivering the extinguishing agents where they are needed. Nozzles can be heat activated - or heat and smoke activated.

Conveyor belt system

The Belt Guard system offers heat or flame activation and its foam extinguishing agent (FEF) is released via multiple nozzles. Flow rate can be preset for specific applications (fast or slow release). Sensors may also trigger alarms. A portable cradle which makes for easy transportation, the water and foam system is easily recharged and the foam agent guaranteed for up to 10 years - depending on water quality.

Extending across any industry, applications include the protection of belt drive systems, second knock transformer protection, fuel refuelling bays, conveyor belts, battery charging bays, tank farms, etc. The picture shows an extinguishing system in its portable cradle
