Pressure Measurement & Control

Precision meter for all pressure types

May 2005 Pressure Measurement & Control

In certain applications, measurement of several types of pressure is often required. Consequently, Testo has designed a versatile instrument that can measure absolute, relative and differential pressure as well as temperature and velocity.

In various industries, pressure is the most measured parameter, even more than temperature. Many applications demand accurate measurements for different types of pressure. However, most portable measuring instruments only measure one kind of pressure. Thus, a number of instruments are needed for effective process optimisation.

Testo has introduced a meter that measures absolute, relative and differential pressures as well as velocity and temperature. As a result, only one instrument is needed for the most common parameter measurements. The testo 521 is an accurate differential pressure meter, with an internal pressure sensor up to 10 kPa, and is suitable for Pitot tube measurements in the range 5 to 100 m/s.

It has two external sockets for further measurements of absolute pressure up to 200 kPa, relative pressure up to 40 MPa, air, liquid or surface temperatures in the range -200 to +1250°C and velocity measurements in the range 1 to 12 m/s. This unit is capable of measuring any parameter with a 4 to 20 mA interface.

The testo 521 is available in two accuracy classes: testo 521-1 with built-in pressure sensor in the class 0,2% of full-scale value or the testo 521-2 with built-in pressure sensor in the class 0,1% of full-scale value. The measurement data can be logged and then analysed on a PC, via ComSoft, or printed on-site with the testo 525 printer. Direct calculation of velocity and volume flow, multipoint, timed mean calculation and density compensation is possible via the instrument or the ComSoft software program.
