Local software company poised for export revenue increase

May 2005 News

Heralded by its successful unveiling late last year, the VIZNET Industrial Portal, a data visualisation framework developed by Adroit Technologies, has been launched, and looks set to substantially grow the company's export revenues.

Financial director, Graeme Campbell says, "The interest from key international distributors and customers has been overwhelming. We believe that we can grow our present 25% export revenue to 40% of total revenue over the coming 24 months."

Because VIZNET offers a single point of configuration, development and management costs are dramatically reduced, especially where systems are geographically dispersed. "Whilst still in development the technology generated huge interest and allowed us to win projects in Holland and also with a rail authority in Belgium because of the advantage that the product brings to distributed systems. It really is a leap forward in systems development and deployment," says managing director, Dave Wibberley.

NASDAQ listed company, Cimnet, chose to partner with Adroit Technologies to develop the next version of its manufacturing executing system (MES) software, Factelligence on the VIZNET framework. This is mainly due to the ease of use of the framework and the value it brings to the more complex world of MES.

Advantages of the VIZNET development partnership include the fact that Cimnet can now run all of its MES visualisation components like overall equipment efficiency (OEE), Downtime and Production through VIZNET, accessing aspects of the system separately or as a composite picture across the array of data sources.

The product's growing success is not unique to the international market.

On the local front, Adroit reports that the product is gaining acceptance from some of the larger South African conglomerates who in the past have chosen to import this type of technology product.

SDAS, another of Adroit's local early adopter partners have built a GIS and other realtime applications using the VIZNET framework. Bokkie Fourie of SDAS states, "The VIZNET framework allowed us to develop a complete .NET application in record time. All we had to do was concentrate on the value-add portion of our application and VIZNET took care of all the connectivity, security and distribution."

Mike Lamusse, technology director for Adroit says, "VIZNET is the culmination of over 30 man years work that delivers an Internet capable, smart client, built on Microsoft's .Net framework, to the Adroit supervisory control and data acquisition (scada) product. It basically sets us up as the leading HMI vendor in this area."

Billed as a 'unifying technology for industrial applications' and a 'collaborative automation framework', VIZNET'S capability to connect to other data sources and enable a collaborative view and the manipulation of enterprise wide data, poses the opportunity for Adroit to break into new markets outside of the manufacturing sector.
