Level measurement in hygienic/corrosive situations

News & Events
Guided microwave sensors from leading level sensor manufacturer, Vega, have been used for some time as suitable solutions for arduous or difficult applications. The latest in the range is now available - the Vegaflex 63 is suitable for hygienic applications and corrosive substances and characterised by a PFA coated rod. A cable version will also be available from mid-2005.
Guided microwave is a very reliable measuring principle, as it is unaffected by product features such as density, conductivity and change in dielectric constant. It also functions reliably under conditions such as dust and noise, humidity change, varying medium and build up. With the guided microwave or time domain reflectometry (TDR) principle, short microwave impulses are guided along the cable or rod, which is suspended in the medium. These pulses are reflected by the process medium to provide accurate contents measurement of silos and hoppers. False echoes normally associated with non-contact measurement methods are eliminated with this system.
An electronics module integrated in the sensor determines the level in the vessel from the pulse running time and shows the exact value on the clear text display. The Vegaflex 63 is a suitable level measuring solution for products such as lime, cement, plastic granules, sand, cereals, and milk powder. It is also ideal for narrow vessels up to 30 metres high and can be adjusted without level change, ie, it is not necessary to fill or empty the vessel.

Level Measurement & Control
One of the most challenging applications for non-contacting radar level transmitters is measuring level in tanks with internal obstructions, such as agitators, heating coils, pipes, ladders or baffles. Rosemount non-contacting radar level transmitters from Emerson feature an advanced solution that enables accurate and reliable level measurements in tanks with obstructions.
