The SpaceMaster 7000 series from Telco consists of an SMT self-contained transmitter and SMR receiver (intended to be used in through-beam mode), an SMP unit for diffuse proximity functions, an SMRR for retro-reflective applications, and an SMPF unit for use with fibre-optic cables. They are all offered with sensitivity adjustment via integral potentiometers, with either plug or cable connections.
The complete series is available either as 4-wire, NPN/PNP transistor output, or as 4-wire ambivalent PNP/NPN output with a 10 to 30 V d.c. supply voltage - both of which offer switch-selectable light or dark function.
The SMR is available with either a 0,5 ms response time and a 7 m range, or with a 2 ms response time and a 20 m range. The control input in the SMT is intended for disabling or enabling the transmitting power temporarily for test purposes, or for multiplexing applications. The complete series is protected against reverse polarity of the supply rails, the control input and output signals. The output is protected against short-circuiting and inductive loads.
The devices are all available in tough polycarbonate, or stainless steel housings. They will withstand 30 g of shock, operate from -20 to +60°C, are sealed to class IP67 and have CE approval.

Sensors & Transducers
Level 9 vehicle intervention for collision avoidance has been mandatory on South African mines since 2022, yet the effective roll-out of proximity detection systems remains slower than expected. This is not due to the technical limitations of integration but to operational readiness on site.
