Realtime moisture sensor

December 2004 Sensors & Transducers

MoistTech's new IR-3000 is a realtime, non-contact moisture sensor with a 16-bit A/D processor providing accuracy, speed of response and extensive diagnostic capability. Utilising surface mount and blue eye technology for use with a PDA, the device has high efficient first surface optics, new lamp designs and digital processing, making it a truly intelligent NIR sensor.

The NIR technique is non-destructive, non-contacting and provides instant measurements. With significantly enhanced processing power, the sensor offers customised filter selection and non-volatile data storage in Flash memory. Windows-based software configures and monitors the IR-3000 series gauge and allows the user to view and adjust calibrations, parameters and diagnostics. With digital displays and graphs the software program is easy to use and can be operated on any PC.

MoistTech IR-3000 allows immediate production line adjustments to improve product quality and consistency, as well as allowing 100% monitoring of the production process. Production line start-up time is reduced to a minimum, while the drying process can be finally controlled, reducing energy consumption.

Various options are offered such as LED/LCD digital displays, Vortec Air cooling panels, a snorkel sampler and optical window. Communication with HMIs such as Wonderware and Intellution is also possible. Typical applications include those found in the food, pharmaceutical, tobacco, paper processing and chemical industries. MoistTech is represented locally by Protea Automation Solutions.
