Tribute to John Dunbar

John Dunbar arrived in South Africa to manage Allen West, an electronics company based in the UK. He moved on to manage other electronic components companies, always complaining about the standards of advertising and editorial in technical journals. When he finally retired he had already taken on various aspects of technical publishing.

John formed a one-man company where, in addition to promoting a growing number of clients, he assisted many technically orientated people to find their place in the wide and varied world of technical publishing. Tom Beattie who worked with him for several years says that John was an astute and honest businessman who helped many people in all aspects of business.

During this new career, despite his age, he mastered all the rapidly developing aspects of reproduction and printing, to the extent that he could argue with many technical specialists, which he enjoyed fully! John and his wife Betty were totally committed to their church and its many activities and charitable offshoots. Of course he edited and printed the church magazine.

John passed away on 6 October at the age of 82 and will be missed by many in the technical publishing world.
