Inventive people with sparkling ideas who always wanted to build great machines can now participate in the educational competition 'xplore New Automation Award 2005'. This is the third time Phoenix Contact is running this competition, but this time it is international.
Phoenix Contact is looking for five entries out of a total of 100 to come from Africa. The 'xplore New Automation Award 2005' will be launched in Africa at the Q-Africa 2004 Conference, Gallagher Estate in Midrand, from 14 to 16 September 2004.
The competition
Entries close on 15 October and individuals and groups from all fields of education can enter by submitting clever and ingenious ideas for use in any area of automation technology. For example, entries for the last two competitions included an automated hotdog machine, a production system that could be operated via the Internet, and an automated system for the desiccation of timber.
In November, 100 entries will be selected, and will then compete for top honours. From this point on, the ideas will be transformed into practical applications. Each group will receive support in the form of automation equipment and software.
In March 2005, the results will be presented at Phoenix Contact in Blomberg, Germany. A jury of international experts from the fields of education, science, and technology will assess the projects and select the best ones.
