Ultra-Magnescale SR33/34, Sony's latest magnetic technology linear encoder, has been designed and developed specifically for use with CNC machine tools.
New magnetic materials and techniques have been developed to make this magnetic linear encoder capable of operating with a signal period of 40 µm (a claimed world first). In comparison with Sony's established Magnescale encoders (operating with a signal period of 200 µm) the SR33/34 represents a quantum leap in accuracy performance and at the same time provides a contaminate proof measuring system for machine tools. The magnetic incremental measuring principle is resistant to contaminants like oil, water and dust, as well as vibration and shock. In case of temperature fluctuations, the scale's thermal expansion coefficient of 12 x 10-6 will match that of the machine tool - so compensation is not necessary.
The range of available measuring lengths is from 70 to 2040 mm with a choice of accuracy grade of ±3 or ±5 µm. The output signals available are 1 Vp-p analog with signal period of 40 µm or TTL (RS422) signal with a resolution of 0,05 to 1 µm. The scales are capable of response speeds up to 2,5 m/s. The design assures compatibility with current and future control systems.
