High-tech show in Secunda

September 2004 News

Secunda is always a very special destination for the Control Roadshow, the reason being that this was the location of our very first event way back in 1999. With this, the seventh annual focused Instrumentation and Control show in Secunda, it is always encouraging to note the number of new visitors that are attending the shows for the first time, and this year was no exception. What is noticeably consistent also is that Secunda is one of the coldest parts of the country at the end of July when we visit this area.

This year in Secunda, the industry had the opportunity to interact with over 35 product specialist companies that made the trip to the Sasol Club to display their products. At 12h00 the doors were opened to visitors - with some confusion caused by a police roadblock, which had delayed some exhibitors more than an hour on their journey. The visitors did not seem too fazed by the frantic set-up activity, and soon everything was back to normal.

A good balanced pace of traffic continued throughout the day up until 18:00 with some visitors attending the Profibus seminar, run concurrently from 14:00 in a co-located venue. As always, the support of the local SAIMC branch in Secunda was much appreciated and Piet van Rensburg, the current branch chairman, did a sterling job at manning their stand the entire day. This branch of the SAIMC is well supported by end users and one day they will hopefully share their secret with other regions.

Specialist companies at this year's event were:

Adroit Technologies, Alstom Automation, Anglo Allied Engineering, Asco/Joucomatic, Burkert Contromatic, Citect Africa, Control Techniques, Danntech, EMG Automation, Endress+Hauser, Ernest Lowe ELCO, Futuristix, IDX On Line, Ind Auto & Control, Instrotech, Lapp Cable, Laser M/A.T. Tech, Loadtech, National Instruments, OEN Enterprises, P&F Products/Jan Coetzee Ind, Pall SA, PREI Instrumentation, Rhomberg, RJ Programmable Techniques, Rockwell Automation, Sustech Manufacturing, Swiss Lab, Temperature Controls, Thermo Electron, Throughput Technologies, Timecount, Tyco Valves & Controls, Valve & Automation, Yokogawa SA.

Further technology centres around the country still to be visited this year include Mossel Bay and Port Elizabeth in August, Vaal Triangle in October and Kimberley, Lime Acres and Kuruman in November.
