The new Simatic PCS7 process control system from Siemens promises all the advantages of totally integrated automation, while offering users an easy interface.
Since its market launch two years ago, the Simatic PCS7 process control system has established itself all over the world in a wide variety of industries and has been used in more than 600 projects. Although the advantages of the process control system have only been put to the test so far in small systems, after comprehensive function extensions the system is now also able to serve the higher performance category.
The new Version 5 of the process control system is the result of continuous research and development. Simatic PCS7 offers a standard all-round system platform for effective automation of small to large systems with several thousand process control tags. With its new functions the system now offers performance features previously restricted to traditional DCS systems. These include redundancy levels and a client/server structure with up to 16 clients/multiclients. The system continues to set the trend in terms of flexibility, scalability and open communication. In addition to the usual system communication buses such as Ethernet and Profibus-DP and -PA, PCS7 can also be equipped with additional communication solutions thanks to the Simatic Net redundant fast Ethernet switching technology. In addition to direct linking with SAP/R3, Simatic PCS7 already used to offer a wide range of interfaces to various management systems. PCS7-@aGlance extends this range even further. The interface, designed for process data, offers facilities for client/server applications.
With many software packages now on the market, data exchange between servers located around the world is possible and displays are produced using normal web browsers. Siemens believes its concept is an innovation for effective investment protection with a rapid return on investment.
