Local developers, Adroit Technologies, hosted its first user group conference at Lesedi Village, north of Johannesburg on 1 and 2 July to a crowd of local and international delegates, that surpassed all expectations.
Conference gets underway
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the company's revolutionary new .Net data visualisation environment - which is reported to have been received by end-users and systems integrators with great commendation and eagerness.
The new Viznet product is a technology designed to surpass legacy products with its broadband connectivity, windows controls and components, a digital dashboard type environment that can run several windows at one time, .Net scripting, international settings, individual data point security, and mobile device support.
Viznet provides a rich integrated development framework that is much easier to use than products that are currently available on the market - employing simple drag-and-drop functionality while retaining exceptional functionality. Adroit's MD, Dave Wibberley, said that .Net is the biggest advance since Microsoft Windows replaced DOS and that it will affect everyone from the end-user through to the developers of applications.
Microsoft's sales solution manager, Dave Ives, gave the keynote address on the future of technology. His presentation confirmed that .Net will form the hub of integrated innovation for their product offerings going forward. He also said that in the US, .Net platform adoption reached 37% in the second quarter of 2003, surpassing that of Java, which has tapered off at 34%.
Certification, scanning, scripting, Adroit's custom agent, security, user-interface design, OLE, asset performance maintenance, manufacturing information systems (MIS), .Net strategy and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) standards were all discussed at length by Adroit's specialists and network of partners providing delegates with a holistic view and working knowledge of the trends and issues facing the industry.
Seasoned international conference veteran, John Richardson from Manufacturing Execution System (MES) giant, Cimnet, commented that the conference was the best he had attended anywhere! Kenneth McPherson of Jendamark Automation said, "I appreciated the focused, relevant topics and the SAN presentation was invaluable." The 10-minute hot topics section was called a 'great success' by Malcolm Heathfield of Ran-tech Systems, who felt the information was very beneficial and kept the conference hopping.
The conference's African setting was selected to correlate with Adroit's Proudly South African heritage and gave rise to the events theme: explore the future while embracing the past.
