German global radar level measurement market leader, Vega, has recently introduced its latest innovation in radar technology.

Part of the 'Puls' series, the Vegapuls 68 was developed with particular emphasis on the sensitivity of the instrument. Measuring solids levels can be tricky, as the reflected radar signal from solids can be far weaker than that of liquids. However, new microwave components in the Vegapuls 68 enable the sensor to evaluate reflection signals that are smaller by a factor of 100 - when compared to other radar sensors.

The antenna system of the sensor was also designed with solids measurement in mind. New, adjustable horn antennas enable the sensor to be positioned at an optimum angle in relation to the material cone, thus minimising false reflections. Silos of up to 70 m in depth can be measured.

The Vegapuls 68 comes with several housing options, including plastic, aluminium and stainless steel. There are also several electronic options. These are the Fieldbus versions of Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus, as well as the option of 4 to 20 mA in HART two and four wire technology. Vega believes that the accuracy obtained from using its Vegapuls 68 in various applications in the solids industry proves that this company has set the standard for radar level measurement.
