SABS approval for meter family

May 2004 News Security Services & Risk Management

Isoil Impianti, a subsidiary company of Gruppo Isoil of Italy, recently granted DLM the southern African rights for its range of products for the downstream petrochemical market. The product range includes control valves, positive displacement meters, strainer air eliminators and accessories as well as a range of electronic devices consisting of earthing monitors, badge readers and small terminal automation software as used at bulk loading facilities.

Once the agreement had been finalised, DLM approached the South African Bureau of Standards, since before a meter can be used for trade, ie as a point of sale measuring device in South Africa, it must obtain type approval in terms of the Trade Metrology Act, an SA certificate of approval number.

The process begins with the submission of the meter and ancillary equipment, together with its relevant documentation to SABS for preliminary investigation as to the suitability of the instrument for point of sale use. Thereafter the meter is installed and tested to ensure that it meets the required accuracy standards. It is then sealed by SABS and used under normal operating conditions for a three month trial period. Subsequently, SABS retests the meter to ensure that it still meets the accuracy criteria. Once this has been successfully completed a submission is made to the Metrology Advisory Committee for type approval and allocation of an SA approval number.

DLM is very proud to announce that the Legal Metrology Department of SABS has awarded type approval SA1355 for the Isoil SBM family of meters. The award was officially presented to DLM by Tom Scriven, representing the Director of Trade Metrology's office at a function held on 26 February at DLM's Longmeadow premises. "Our sincere thanks go to the SABS team, and especially Jaco Marneweck and Johan van den Heever," says Wayne Walton, national sales manager of DLM's Flow Division. "These two gentlemen were responsible for guiding us through the process and we would like to commend and thank them both for the totally professional yet extremely helpful and courteous manner in which they conducted proceedings."
